Agile Austin is the largest group of Agile professionals in the central Texas Area. As a 501c(6) non-profit (with appreciation to Andrews-Kurth), we provide and promote gatherings of like-minded individuals in the Austin Area.

Your Board

Will Simpson
President and Chief Executive Officer

Senior Executive Leader and Business Transformation Expert with a track record of turning around underperforming departments and accelerating growth in business units and teams by leveraging Agile and Lean philosophies. Domain experience includes financial technology, software and services.

Skilled at communicating complex issues in terms that a wide range of stakeholders can understand and embrace; add value by streamlining operations to increase operational efficiencies and transform businesses. Serve as the high profile company face/voice of technology to customers, partners, and vendors.

Servant leader with a passion for developing high performing  teams to exceed expectations. Expertise includes building and leading new business units, change management and process building in rapidly changing environments.

Adam Li
Chief Technology Officer

Adam Li is a senior technology leader with over 20 years of hands-on experience in software engineering, project management, and Agile transformation. He is a passionate learner, practitioner, and leader of Agile and Lean since 2000.

 

Currently, Adam is the Senior Engineering Director of Agile Transformation and Support at WellSky, a healthcare technology company. As a member of the engineering executive leadership team reporting to the CTO, he is responsible for enterprise Agile transformation, process improvement, release management, quality assurance, program management, staff development, and resource vendor management.  

Adam is a Certified Scrum Professional, Scrum at Scale Certified Practitioner, Licensed Agile Fluency Facilitator, and holds PMP, CISSP, CISM, ITIL, Six Sigma and many other industry certifications.

Scott Killen
Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer

Scott is an Enterprise Agile Coach for Netspend. He tries to forget that at one time or another he’s held CSM, CSP, PMP, SPC and CSQE certifications. Of more note, he’s taught and mentored many, many hundreds of people fundamental and advanced agile development skills in corporate, university and non-profit settings.

In service to his community Scott was founder and first President of Agile Austin, co-Chair of Keep Austin Agile 2018, President of Austin Software Process Improvement Network, Chair of the PMI Technical Local Interest Group and a member of several other non-profit boards.

When not thinking about how to build better software, faster, he tells stories to children and adults of all ages. Previously recognized by the Texas Commission for the Arts, he’s told stories in diverse venues to audiences large and small, but stories around a campfire are still his favorite. Counter-intuitively, he feels honored to be an award winning liar, having placed second in two contests.  And, to close, no lie, he’s a Distinguished Toastmaster!

Sarah Crook
Vice President and Chief Operating Officer

Sarah Crook is an Agile Team Coach at Spiceworks. An Austin transplant, Sarah has a BA in Business Management Economics from UC Santa Cruz. With roots in community leadership ranging from groups of  IT professionals to gamers to Rotary volunteers to business students, she believes passionately in the power of communities to shape the world around them. She aims to build empathy, courage, empowerment, and transparency in the teams with which she works.

Ned Horvath
Chief Learning Officer 

Dr Horvath received his bachelors’ degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the Master of Arts and Ph.D. from Princeton University, all in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science. His early research was in the complexity of algorithms, particularly related to sorting and optimal scheduling.

In an industrial career spanning more than three decades, Dr Horvath was a Member of Technical Staff at Bell Laboratories, where among other projects he was a design engineer for the Tuxedo OLTP system and AT&T’s commercial email system. He has led software development teams at Sun Microsystems and several startup and emerging growth companies, including multidisciplinary international development teams. Among the resulting products are optimization products for major airlines, key elements of the standards-based Defense Messaging System for the US Department of Defense, the market-leading QuickMail system for Macintosh-based computers, the market leading ichat internet messaging products, and Oracle’s Java System Directory (LDAP) product suite, and several mobile applications.

Dr Horvath has served on the faculties of Massey University (New Zealand), The Pennsylvania State University, Texas A&M International University, The Cooper Union, Stevens Institute of Technology, and Nova Southeastern University. 

Kassandra K. Cardenas
Chief Product Officer  

Kassandra Cardenas is a passionate agile advocate, facilitator, and mentor with nearly 5 years of experience in both traditional methodologies and agile approaches. She’s an Advanced Certified Scrum Master, Certified Product Owner, and proud UT Longhorn alumni with a background in Management Information Systems. Currently she’s a Scrum Master within the Internal Operations department at Netspend a FinTech service company.

 

Kassandra has been known for her active volunteering in the Agile Austin community since 2015. She led the Operations Subcommittee for the 2019 Keep Austin Agile Conference and currently leads the monthly Scrum Master- SIG. She is dedicated to making a difference in the workplace and in her community by inspiring teams to adopt agile principles.

 

When she’s not facilitating, Kassandra is mastering her passion for salsa dancing. Otherwise, she’s leading Netspend’s Hispanic Employee Resource Group, raising funds for her founded scholarship, running around Lady Bird Lake, or eating at Chick-fil-A.
