If you havent been playing along, m sorry you missed us. If you read (or got bogged down in) the original Fifth Discipline book, we think youll find this volume much more accessible and easier to apply — more real-world results, more concrete, more exercises to test your understanding and help you get started.

If you havent been joining us, start now — you dont have to read the book in order, see chapter 12 for some possible roadmaps.

And you can catch up: notes from the discussion to date are here: https://goo.gl/v3pkAG

So go ahead and look at those, add your own comments, and join us in December to continue the discussion. On 12/17 well be focusing on the Arenas of Practice and Frontiers sections.

And well be picking the next book!

Dont miss this opportunity to stretch, and to learn how to make your organization a learning organization.

Date/Time: 12/17/15 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Monthly Meeting – Social Gathering: Thanks to the Community and Volunteers http://www.agileaustin.org/2015/11/14/monthly-meeting-social-gathering-thanks-to-the-community-and-volunteers-3/ Sat, 14 Nov 2015 16:18:18 +0000 http://www.agileaustin.org/2015/11/14/monthly-meeting-social-gathering-thanks-to-the-community-and-volunteers-3/ Over the course of 2012, Agile Austin had so many volunteers help grow the community that the board decided to host an annual social event in December to thank them for their valuable contributions. It was a great event, with great conversation and networking, and excitement around the great impact of the volunteer efforts.

And so began an Agile Austin tradition!

The Agile Austin Board hopes that you will join them at Chez Zee on December 8th for some great food, great atmosphere and most of all, great company. Please bring your stories from the past year of Agile Austin to share. What was the favorite thing seen? How did you get helped by your Agile Austin colleagues? These stories will add greatly to the notes of appreciation expressed by the board.

Please do note that this social gathering will be held in place of the regular December monthly meeting.

Space is limited and we need to lock in headcount fairly soon, so please RSVP as soon as possible.

Monthly Meeting Info:

Food and Drink will be provided courtesy of Agile Austin.

Seating is limited!

Please make sure that you are able to attend this session. Seating is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis. We want to give everyone the opportunity to attend, so please only sign up if you are committed to attending.

Dev SIG – To estimate or not to estimate, that is the question http://www.agileaustin.org/2015/11/10/dev-sig-to-estimate-or-not-to-estimate-that-is-the-question/ Tue, 10 Nov 2015 19:50:52 +0000 http://www.agileaustin.org/2015/11/10/dev-sig-to-estimate-or-not-to-estimate-that-is-the-question/ The debate about the value of estimating software projects rages on, with advocates on both sides touting the fallacy of the other sides position, and fortifying the argument for their side. In this discussion we will talk about: why we estimate, why estimation has become a controversial topic, how developers, development managers, and Agile coaches can discuss estimation with business stakeholders, and a sensible lean approach to estimation. Come join us as Agile Austins current president Yasser Farra leads the discussion.
