Bells and whistles. Often times UI or UX details are placed into this low-priority category, where they languish undone as “UX debt”. But is the communication function performed by bells and whistles really so unimportant? Bells and whistles (as on a train) are actually crucial safety equipment, and while their virtual equivalents may not save lives they do enable the usefulness of a product by communicating effectively with users.
