E-Commerce platforms. Health Information Systems. Financial Systems. Sarah Palin’s e-mail. SaaS. Government Systems. POS (Point-of-Sale). Mobile Apps. Your Home Router. HR Software. Operating Systems. All things “Cloud”. ERP. Identity Management. Playstation Network. Smart Phones. SCADA. Classified Networks. Customer Databases. Facebook. Payment Processing. etc.

All of these disparate systems have two elements in common – they have software-based vulnerabilities, and they are under attack.

Security is a pressing concern for every software development team. However it is often unclear, externalized, poorly defined, and reactive. Security is commonly implemented as a painful blocker at the tail end of testing or development. Security reviews involve external experts who lack application knowledge, and the time to resolve findings takes significant time and effort.

However, security can be agile!

There will be two main takeaways from this talk, a) a better understanding of why security matters for modern software, and b) successful agile-centric approaches to address these challenges.
