The Product Owner role in Scrum has some problems. Common issues include too much to do, too detailed, too technical, too low level, too high level, not technical enough, “the user story writer,” the product dictator, the product waffler, and the bottleneck. We will discuss how to reform the Product Owner role to achieve a more sustainable role and a more successful product. We will include examples of reformed Product Owner roles from major software product companies and the improvements they have achieved by reforming the Product Owner role.

The Product backlog is the main vehicle Product Owners use to manage ideas to be built. The Product backlog when configured as a one dimensional to do list leaves much to be desired. We will discuss multidimensional alternatives that allow you to construct and use a product model for your backlog. We will discuss how using multi-dimensional backlogs will really improve your product management and your stakeholder management.
