Prior to the mid-1990s or so, almost every automated testing tool was like a Swiss army knife: you had to buy an often expensive tool that did many different things–not all of them very well–even if you only needed one or two of the tools. These days, those Swiss army knife automated testing tools are still around, but our automated testing toolbox also contains a large variety of free open source and (usually inexpensive) commercial well-crafted single- or limited-purpose tools. Stan will present his view of this transformation and what it means for companies and test automation practitioners. Hopefully, the presentation and the experiences shared by other attendees will help attendees who may be looking at automated testing tools.
