Deploying Database Schema Changes: It Doesn’t have to be that Painful

Skip the line and pre-register here

The process of getting a database schema change from development, through QA and into a mission critical production database can be long, arduous and frustrating. Fortunately, it does not have to be this way.

Part I of this presentation is going to focus on the underlying reasons for why this process is so painful in medium and large enterprise IT organizations. Furthermore, we are going to explore the few principles (related to process management, organizational change and communication) that, when adequately implemented, can significantly reduce the duration and effort of this process while simultaneously increasing the probability of success. This discussion will be database vendor agnostic.

Part II of the presentation is going to provide real world examples on how to overcome some common technical challenges while deploying database schema changes into production. The examples in Part II will utilize the Oracle RDBMS.

Target Audience: Developers, DBAs, Technical Managers
